Our Family grows...thanks to adoption

June 28, 2013
Friday after dropping Rose off at VBS I was standing outside the church chatting with a friend when I get the call.

Chad was on the line and said something unexpected happened and the social worker wanted to know if we could come get the kids today for them to move in with us.

Umm YES of course.
So instead of a 1 to 2 month transition over to us, it was going to be done all at once (3 days before we thought we were going to meet them).
  • Let me back track for just a minute....  We had been trying to adopt for about a year and a half.  On Tuesday of this week we were finally matched with boy and girl siblings.
This is a video of Rose when I told her we were matched. (Tuesday)

But we wasn't going to get to meet them until next week.  Then over the rest of the summer or so, they would transition to us from their current foster home.  So that call was quite shocking and exciting!!

I think I was in shock.
Wow... in a few hours I was going to go meet and pick up my two new children for the first time.

Ok.  What has to be done?  Called the Sleep Shop where we ordered our organic mattresses for the kids (the mattress are not scheduled to arrive for another week).  The kind owners are letting us borrow two mattresses until ours arrive.  (Now that is excellent customer service!)
Thankfully the night before I had already cleaned and organized their bedrooms.
Chad still needed to assemble one of the bed frames...so I picked him up from work and we went home and got busy.  Then I went to Rose's VBS afternoon party with water slides etc, while daddy stayed and worked some more on their rooms.
When I told Rose she was so EXCITED!   She had been waiting and praying for siblings and now unexpectedly, it was going to happen today.
After getting cleaned up all three of us headed over to the social services office.

We were in a room with some toys a kiddie table and chairs with 3 case workers... when 2 adorable children, foster mom, their teen sister, and another lady walked in.  It was all so surreal.  What do you say to your children that you are just meeting?  Little Boy just walked right in, held out his hand (to shake) and said "Are you my new family?  It is nice to meet you"  Oh my goodness.  Melt my heart.  How adorable.  Little girl held out her hand too, and mumbled "Nice to meet you."  Precious. ( and gulp.)
I now know (one reason) why newborns come into this world so small.  I just wanted to scoop them up in my arms and love on them.
After a few minutes of playing they let us leave that building with all 3 of our beautiful children.  The van was loaded up with their belongings.

First few minutes at home after the house tour...

This last picture is that first night at bedtime.

What a wonderful day it was.
