School Week 4 and a New Tackle Box

This school year we are studying Emily Dickinson's poems with a different poem each week.  We really enjoyed Robert Frost last school year and this year's poetry study should be equally as good.  

For Art Appreciation this book has been great...

In Science we are studying Astronomy.  

This week was an overview of our Solar System.

On our 'Farm Day' Grandpa gave the kids a tackle box for their new fishing spot in their backyard.

Seriously, you do not understand what this meant to these kiddos.  In this photo they are intently listening to Grandpa describe the contents.  

They were so appreciative and excited about this tackle box!

 getting driving lessons is a big deal...

We think Nature Study is very important.  It is great when new birds decide to visit our yard...

 A midday walk to the local park is always a welcomed break.

School Week 3 and Move to Our New House

It is moving-in week!  

 A big thank you to our helpers....  Gma, Gpa, Aunt Jennifer, Timothy, Tyler, Aunt Kiki, and Jordan!!

 Moving is lots of work...

...but breaks are fun when you have a paddle boat...

  ....or a fishing pole

School is chugging along even with the busyness of moving.  We are digging in the book of Philippians with the help of this great book.  

Sundays are a great day to Worship then come together with loved ones...

School Week 2 and KY State Fair

We started this week with a Field Trip to the Kentucky State Fair with Gma and Gpa!  

Each kid found so much that they just loved here.

Rose even got to practice some sharp shooting.

All 3 really enjoyed all the animals...

 

Yep, we sure do love Kentucky!

I think a day at the State Fair is worth many 'in the books days' but 

regular school work was also continued on at the farm.  One book that we are enjoying is 'Peril and Peace'.

...but don't think it is all work and no play...  Grandpa sometimes includes the kids when he is trying to get his work done...

 "Grandpa, I didn't know farm work was this much Fun!"  

(I am sure the grandkids didn't slow down his work at all, right?)

...and I just had to show you my morning view when I wake up in the morning....

...loving the green beauty!

Also, while staying on the farm, I was able to help Gma out in her Nursery Sunday School Class at my home church.  I don't know the exact number but my mom has been doing this class for many many years.

School Starts!

On August 17th we did a 'soft' start to the school year while we were still staying on the farm (before the move to our new house).

Rose - 6th Grade, Michael - 4th Grade, and Daisy - 3rd Grade

...With one addition!

Cousin Timothy (8th Grade) joined us because he was still in KY after spending the summer with Grandpa and Grandma on the farm.

We are using a variety of curriculum, but our core curriculum is Heart of Dakota's Resurrection to Reformation

(I will post more about our 2015-2016 curriculum in a later post)

We are learning about the Early Church and the Roman Empire

Here are some work samples...

 Everyone is enjoying our Art Appreciation studies.  

A Roman arch was erected for the triumph of Constantine.  It is still standing today!  During our studies about arches they each constructed one with clay.  They did not last two hours, let alone 1,700 years.

One great feature of schooling on the farm includes taking nature walks with Grandma!

Among other things, Grandma is teaching them to identify different trees.

We had at a fun weekday pool party with some local homeschoolers
