4-H Camp on Tybee Island (homeschool week)

We had a blast at 4-H camp. Since it was homeschool week Grandma and Grandpa Irvin came down and went with us (Chad, Angela and Rose) It was so nice all going together!! We had a cabin (concrete block building with bunk beds and bathrooms) just for our family. Rose's favorite class was the squid dissection, but loved it all - crabs & critters, beach ecology, and marsh ecology. The experience was fabulous. (but how can you go wrong when camp is on an island:) I learned a lot myself. I highly recommend it!! When we studied the beach, we were on the beach. When we studied the marsh, we were in the marsh. Hands on learning is awesome!
Rose also enjoyed our cafeteria style meals. Our family had KP (Kitchen Patrol) at the first meal. Which meant we helped set up the chairs and set the tables and after the meal we formed a tray line to clear the trays (one person dumps the liquids, another grabs the silverware to put in the bucket, and so on, until the tray was empty) and then wash down the tables and sweep the floor. Well Rose thought this was way cool and wanted to have KP at every meal :P She also enjoyed walking her tray up to the tray line after each meal.....so we finally learned to stay seated and she would walk all our trays up for us one by one. Obviously she has never spent a day in public school or this would not have been such a treat for her .....emptying trays.
The staff was great. They really took their time to make it fun and knowledgeable. They answered all the questions and were just plain nice! They said homeschool weeks are their favorite because the kids are so engaged and inquisitive and want to learn, and well behaved. The remainder of the year they have public school groups coming in.

The Most Adorable Class Ever

In our homeschool co-op, I teach the most adorable class of 4 and 5 year old girls. They are too cute! The girls are so adorable. The class is small enough that we can chat while they are working on stuff, which is so precious. They are all so sweet. The class is 10 Commandments Lapbooking which has been fun to teach. Another mom is my assistant teacher and helps me out.

Yellow Daisy Festival

We went to the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain. It is a huge day walking through so many craft vendors :P (btw, we just browsed...didn't spend a dime...got some cute craft ideas though!) Rose always loves watching the girls clog dance. She will watch them all afternoon. The Bubble Man was there....he seems to be at a lot of activities we go to around town....He is always a hit. I mean, how can you go wrong with bubbles? The local Christian radio station had a booth for the kids to do free spin art. Rose enjoyed that.
Then of course, we had to hit some of our normal things that we do at Stone Mtn......like the ropes course.

I started watching Ariana while her mommy and daddy are at work. Isn't she a cutie!! She is the sweetest little girl!

Right now I just have her one day a week, but will be watching her full time when her mom starts working full time in a few weeks.

Beginning in Jerusalem (part 2)

Last week we found out that the first place we must start in the great commission is within our own families, or as we called it, "Jerusalem." The fact is, most Christian parents are skipping Jerusalem by sending their children away for the majority of their "education" to the godless government schools. Some parents are trying to play make-up by sub-contracting out once a week to their local church a job that they should be doing themselves. What's also sad is that there are many misguided parents who believe that we should separate our roles as parents from our roles as educators. These parents have no idea how ridiculous this sounds. The latin root word for "educate" means "to lead." Parents, either you are leading your kids or some other person or system is. Sorry, but you cannot have it both ways, yet so many parents are puzzled as to why their kids won't listen to them or why they think and act like pagans. I think the answer is clear— see Luke 6:40.
