Leif the Lucky

Hands on History! Does it get any better than this? We have our good friends come over on Mondays for a nice enrichment activity and lesson to go with our history. It is so super fun! This family has a son a little older than Rose and a daughter a little younger than Rose (well and a baby but baby Bob doesn't participate:)
Here they are making Viking Ships, as we had been studying Leif Eriksson in our Early American History.

If you want use some of my resourses:
I use this curriculum: Beautiful Feet Early American History (but of course I found mine for half price on eBay)
Here are 3 different sets of instructions to make a viking ship. Of course I pulled from them all and came up with my own instructions. So you can follow these instruction our DIY:
Craft 1
Craft 2
Craft 3
Video clips I used (3) I thought all three of these were pretty cool:
Animated Ship
Movie Clip we viewed up to where they blow the horn
Real Ship in a Museum in Norway

Sign Language on stage

This is Rose doing the sign language for the song 'I Can Only Imagine' by Mercy Me. She performed at our Homeschool group's Performance Night. She did an excellent job!!

If you only watch one video on here....This is the one to watch!!!!!

Performing Psalm 103 at Presentation night. Rose really enjoyed this song and learned a chapter in the Bible at the same time.
Yes, you can see me in the foreground during part of the video leading the kids. Yes I know you think it's hilarious that I lead in the singing. Luckily for this coming year we have someone that actually carry a tune lead in the singing I can lead the motions, etc for worship time in the homeschool co-op:)
Standing next to Rose is her good friend Tutu.

K graduation cake

I made Rose a graduation cake.....

Rose's Kindergarten Graduation

We graduated Rose from Kindergarten a year early since she can already read and write in cursive. She also enjoys other subjects like history, art, science, Bible, Home Ec, etc. She is a joy to teach and I look forward to starting first grade with her! Here is the video of the graduation with our homeschool group.

Sharing the candles

I wanted to share this......I thought it was sweet and giving. (You can see it in the video but not really hear it)

At Rose's party, we sang Happy Birthday to Rose. She leaned over and blew out one candle. I say "try again." She obeys and blows out just one more candle. She lifts up her hands with a big smile and says "wait, wait, I know! We can ALL do it together!" And the other children all joined her to blow out her remaining three candles with big smiles on their faces as well.

Wasn't that sweet?

What a blessing this child is to me.

The Little Book of Big Reasons to Homeschool

This was an 'easy read' book packed with lots of good stuff. If you even remotely are thinking about homeschooling or are already homeschooling I recommend this book. It will answer many questions you have!
Two Thumbs way up!!
It is well worth your time reading it.

Charlotte Mason Companion

This is a book I recommend to any parents. It is not an 'easy read' but is so filled with abundant information. I loved it and gleaned so much.

If you are homeschooling or thinking about homeschooling this is an excellent book. If you don't homeschool but want to know about how children learn this is a great book to read.

Karen Andreola takes Charlotte's ideas and breaks them down to a more readable format. She also includes several examples and how to's.

I highly recommend this book!!!!!!!!!!
